Sloppy Joes

 

Ingredients

  • 1 lb TD Primal blend or ground bison or beef
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • green bell pepper, minced
  • ½ large yellow onion, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • cup beef broth (or chicken or water)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • ¾ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Dash of hot sauce
  • ⅔ cup ketchup

Directions

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks.
  2. Transfer beef to a colander to drain. In the same skillet, cook onion and bell pepper until softened. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Return beef to the skillet and stir in tomato paste.
  4. Add ketchup, water, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, red pepper flakes (if using), black pepper, and hot sauce. Stir to combine.
  5. Simmer over medium heat for 10–15 minutes until thickened. Serve over toasted buns.
